Borowicz wants county to protect gun owners’ rights

From staff reports

LOCK HAVEN — State Rep. Stephanie Borowicz (R-Centre/Clinton) wants Clinton and Centre county commissioners to enact a Second Amendment Sanctuary Ordinance that would protect their citizens against any unconsitutional gun control laws imposed in Harrisburg or Washington D.C.

Borowicz met with Clinton County commissioners Miles Kessinger and Angela Harding on Tuesday, pledging her support to work with county officials and law enforcement to enact such an ordinance.

Timing of the meeting called by Borowicz was not the best. Newly elected Kessinger and Harding took the oath of office just last Friday, and fellow commissioner Jeff Snyder was at the County Commissioners Association of Pa. conference in Harrisburg. Snyder is president of that organization.

Nevertheless, Harding said she and Kessinger met with Borowicz and listened to her comments and concerns about the possibility of unconstitutional gun control laws that could be imposed in Harrisburg or Washington D.C.

“We told her that we would discuss it when Jeff gets back,” Harding said.

“Personally, I am not interested in taking people’s guns, but we haven’t had an opportunity to discuss it,” Harding said Wednesday afternoon. “I have no interest in changing the constitution.”

Kessinger said he had no comment at this time.

Borowicz said she plans to meet with Centre County officials in the near future and present her case to them.

In a press release sent to The Express Wednesday, Borowicz said:

“It is alarming that I need to write a letter such as this, but the time has come. Freedom and our God- given rights are under attack.

“Today, I am expressing my complete support for Clinton and Centre counties to enact a Second Amendment Sanctuary Ordinance to protect law-abiding 76th District residents against unconstitutional gun control laws imposed in Harrisburg or Washington, D.C.

“Some of the ‘unlawful acts’ nullified by this Second Amendment Sanctuary Ordinance would include Red Flag Gun Confiscation orders, taxation of firearms and ammunition; registration or tracking of guns or gun owners; and any bans or restrictions on legally purchased firearms, ammunition or accessories.

“Additionally, this ordinance would prohibit the use of county funds in the enforcement of the defined ‘unlawful acts.’ It would also reaffirm the duty of lower public officials to uphold their oath of office to stand against tyranny and protect the citizens of their county.

“Most importantly, this Second Amendment Sanctuary Ordinance would uphold the higher laws of the Pennsylvania Constitution, including the Commonwealth’s firearms preemption law, and the U.S. Constitution.

“I look forward to working with my sheriffs, commissioners and if need be supervisors across the 76th District to get this job done and safeguard our sacred right to bear arms.

“My resolve is strong on this matter. There is no freedom without the ability to defend that freedom. Stand with me to secure the 76th District as a Second Amendment Sanctuary County in both Clinton and Centre counties.”
