LOCK HAVEN -- Many Clinton County property owners would normally be writing out checks for their county real estate taxes this week, as the usual April 30 deadline to get a discount is Thursday.
But not this year.
Due to the COVID-19, the county commissioners have extended the deadlines for county property owners to pay their 2020 county real estate taxes.
The deadline for paying taxes and receiving the discount has been moved from April 30 to Aug. 31.
And the deadline to pay taxes at face value has been extended from Sept. 1 to Dec. 31. That means there will be no penalties if taxes are paid by Dec. 31, 2020.
These extensions are for 2020 county real estate taxes only, Clinton County Commissioner Miles Kessinger said at Monday's work session.
He said some municipalities are doing the same.
With the Piper County Building closed, taxes can be paid by mailing them to the Clinton County Treasurer's Office at 2 Piper Way, Lock Haven, Pa. 17745, or dropping them in a secure box outside the Piper building. The box is locked at all times and the mail is removed by a county employee twice a day.
