CLEARFIELD -- Federal authorities last week searched a unit in the Garden Apartments in relation to the indictment of a Lock Haven man in what has been described as a major methamphetamine distribution ring based in Clearfield County.
Jared Nyman, whose address is listed as the Garden Apartments, was one of 38 people from Centre, Clearfield, Clinton and Erie counties named in an indictment unsealed Friday.
John Christopher Bisbee, 40, of Erie, and Alexis Brolin Jr., 51, of Allport, Clearfield County, are alleged to have been the ring leaders of the organization that had been under investigation for 18 months.
The indictment was returned May 19 but not unsealed until Friday the same day information about the search was unsealed.
Nyman is accused in the indictment of being among those who conspired to possess with intent to distribute 50 or more grams of methamphetamine and more than 500 grams of a mixture containing that illegal drug.
The overall conspiracy involved more than 1,000 grams of methamphetamine and 10 or more kilograms of a mixture containing a detectable amount of that drug, the indictment alleges.
Charges against some of those indicted involved unlawful possession of weapons but Nyman, who was arrested last Tuesday, is not one of them.
The reason cited for the search Nyman's apartment listed in the affidavit are charges of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, conspiracy to do the same thing and money laundering.
The day Nyman was arrested white powder residue was in plain sight in the bedroom and packaging material was seen in the living room, the document states.
Other Clinton County residents named in the indictment were Jonathan Bierly, 48, of Loganton; Robert Morgret, 56, of Avis, and Robert Nyman, 58, of Mill Hall.
"This indictment represents the largest drug investigation and prosecution in the history of Clearfield County, and we have successfully dismantled an organization bringing kilo quantities of meth from Atlanta for distribution throughout northcentral Pennsylvania," said Scott W. Brady, U.S. attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania.
The investigation was a team effort that included state police, Drug Enforcement Administration, the U. S. Attorney's Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
The ten-count Indictment, returned on May 19 but not unsealed until Friday, named:
