Rogers Stadium track open to the public

JAKE MORELLI/FOR THE EXPRESS The track at Bellefonte Area High School’s Rogers Stadium is now open to the public for walking and running. Those using the track should wear a mask when entering and leaving the facility and should maintain social distancing when using the track.

BELLEFONTE — If you’re looking for a place to get some fresh air and exercise, there’s a new option in Bellefonte.

The track at Rogers Stadium is being opened to the public for the first time ever. Runners and walkers are welcome to use the track at the new-and-improved stadium.

“(It was) always the board’s intention to have it open to the public,” explained Bellefonte athletic director Deb Moore. “We had to get the COVID-19 plan board approved before opening facilities.”

That took place at last week’s school board meeting.

There are some rules, if you are headed to the track.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, those walking or running must wear a face mask when entering and leaving the facility. The mask does not have to be worn while exercising, as long as there is social distancing.

Here are some of the other general rules:

— The track will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. The track will be closed, however, when there is a student activity taking place (football practice, soccer practice, marching band practice, etc.)

— Those entering the facility can use the track only. No one is permitted into the bleachers or on the football field.

— Walkers should use the outside lanes of the track.

— BASD reserves the right to search any and all property brought into the stadium.

— No pets are allowed.

— No alcoholic beverages are permitted.

— No bicycles, skateboards, roller blades or other wheeled vehicles are permitted.

— No strollers or baby carriages are permitted.

— No fireworks or combustible materials are permitted.

— Only tennis shoes or sneakers are allowed on the track — no cleats.

— No food, beverages, chewing gum or tobacco products.

— The stadium is under video surveillance.

The track is open from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on weekends.
