As expected, the numbers are on the rise.
With students returning to Penn State's University Park and Lock Haven University's main campus, the amount of confirmed COVID-19 cases were expected to climb. Over the weekend, that came to fruition.
On Sunday, Clinton County added two new cases of COVID-19, while Centre County added seven. Clinton County's total now stands at 135, while Centre County has 469 confirmed cases of the deadly virus.
In the past two weeks alone, Centre County has added 77 new cases of COVID-19. That number has risen with the return of Penn State students. On Friday, the university reported that 27 University Park students had tested positive. The 27 positives came out of 2,950 tests over the previous seven days. Another 1,230 were still awaiting results when at the time Penn State updated its COVID-19 dashboard.
At Lock Haven University, there have been five positive cases reported.
Throughout the Commonwealth, 670 new positives were reported on Sunday. That brings Pennsylvania's total of 133,504. The statewide recovery rate is 82 percent.
As far as negative tests are concerned, Centre County has had 13,683 test negative. In Clinton County, a total of 3,483 have tested negative. Throughout the state, there were 11,791 new negative test results statewide. A total of 1,515,899 patients in Pennsylvania have tested negative.
There were two more deaths added to the statewide count on Sunday. A total of 7,763 have died as a result of contracting COVID-19.
"The mitigation efforts in place now are essential as we protect our most vulnerable Pennsylvanians, including our children as they start school and our loved ones in long-term care facilities," Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine said in a press release Sunday. "Wearing a mask, practicing social distancing, and following the requirements set forth in the orders for bars and restaurants, gatherings, and telework will help keep our case counts low. We know that the cases in schools and in facilities such as nursing homes are often a reflection of the spread of the virus in the local community. Together, as Pennsylvanians, we each have a part to play in working to ensure that cases of COVID-19 remain low."
In nearby counties, Lycoming now has 518 cases. The other counties look like this: Blair (456), Union (371), Clearfield (227), Mifflin (160), Tioga (48) and Potter (25).
