MONTOURSVILLE — President Donald J. Trump is scheduled to hold a rally at the Williamsport Regional Airport tonight.
The president’s event – just two days before the Nov. 3 General Election – is set for 8 p.m. today, probably again on a tarmac at the airport, similar to his visit to the same location in 2019.
It is one of several stops the president has arranged as he seeks votes in the key battleground state of Pennsylvania.
This time, Trump faces Democratic challenger, former Vice President Joe Biden, and is also running a re-election campaign amid the COVID-19 pandemic, which has impact in his visit to Montoursville, Richard Howell, the Williamsport Regional Airport executive director, confirmed to the Williamsport Sun-Gazette, which first reported the visit.
That is because the stage and those in attendance will not be packing inside the hangar as they did in a visit in 2019, but rather will have to remain outside, Howell said.
The expected crowd will be shuttled to and from the Lycoming Mall parking lot destination by River Valley Transit bus services, according to Skip Cochran, a media spokesoman for the agency.
Donald J. Trump for President Inc. has arranged the visitations, which will be taking the president to the airport aboard a smaller version of Air Force One. The 747 version can’t land at the airport due to its larger wheelbase, according to Howell.
Trump is expected to deliver remarks on Making America Great Again at Bucks County at noon today and rallies in Reading at 2:30 p.m., Butler at 5:30 p.m. and then drop by Lycoming County, according to the Trump relection campaign team. In Ohio visits, including Youngstown, his daughter, Ivanka, addressed the crowd before introducing her father and president.
“The last time he was overwhelmed by the support when he came here thinking Montoursville was a smaller aera and he was absolutely amazed,” said Carol Sides, a former Trump delegate from Lycoming County.
“Sometimes when you want to show gratitude you come back,” Sides told the Sun-Gazette.
The Lycoming County Republican Party and Committee were notified about the president’s visit, said Vincent Matteo, its chairman.
The special visit will require the full assets of the airport personnel on hand and local, state and federal law enforcement working alongside the Secret Service.
The last presidential visit was timed for the special congressional race and primary election between U.S. Rep. Fred Keller, R-Kreamer, and Marc Friendenberg, his Democratic challenger.
The visit drew more than 15,000 estimated visitors to the airport, including media and spillover crowds watching from a large-screen video.
The White House Advance Team, reelection campaign personnel were in charge of building the stage, Howell told the newspaper.
It will be brisk outside all day.
The National Weather Service forecasting experts in State Collect said the temperature will be a high of 47 degrees and sunny with clear skies and a temperature of 39 at 8 p.m. at the airport.
The presidential campaign stop comes on the heels of a Sept. 19 visit by Eric Trump, the president’s son, to Cogan Station, where he spoke to party supporters at former U.S. Rep. Tom Marino’s residence.
