MILL HALL -- Elementary school students in the Keystone Central School District will be returning to classrooms next week.
KCSD superintendent Jacquelyn Martin announced in a news release that elementary students would return to classrooms starting Monday, Jan. 25.
"Earlier this month we learned of a new recommendation from the PA DOH and PDE regarding elementary students and their return to in-person instruction as soon as possible. Based on my conversations with Dr. Elizabeth McGraw, Penn State University Director of the Center for Infectious Disease Dynamics, I believe that our elementary staff and students can safely return next week even though our community spread remains in the substantial range," Martin said in the release. "Our administrators have been working on plans to have our elementary students return to school five days per week while meeting the mandated safety requirements of six feet of distance at any time when a child is unmasked (eating and mask breaks)."
In the release, Martin noted that community spread in Clinton, Centre and Potter counties is on the decline.
With that in mind, the following schedule will be in effect next week (Monday, Jan. 25 through Friday, Jan. 29):
-- Liberty-Curtin: K-4 attend in person learning Monday-Friday.
-- Mill Hall: K-4 attend in person learning Monday-Friday.
-- Robb: K-4 attend in person learning Monday-Friday.
-- Woodward: K-4 attend in person learning Monday-Friday.
-- Renovo: K-6 attend in person learning Monday-Friday
-- Bucktail High School/Central Mountain Middle School/Central Mountain High School:
-- Cohort 1 (A-L) Monday-Tuesday in person and Wednesday-Friday remote.
-- Cohort 2 (M-Z) Monday-Wednesday remote and Thursday-Friday in person.
The release said that there will be no changes for full remote learners or KCSD Virtual Academy students. It also said that families and staff should be prepared for any possible short-term closures for any school.
Martin also announced in the release that there would be free meal distribution next week. There will be seven days of bundled breakfasts and lunches distributed on Monday, Jan. 25 and Thursday, Jan. 28. Meals are available for all children ages 1 through 18.
Distribution will take place at the following locations: Bucktail High School (main entrance), 5-6 p.m., Robb Elementary (main entrance), 5 to 6 p.m., Central Mountain High School (bus loop entrance in parking lot), 5-6 p.m.
The next Keystone Central school board meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 4. It is a work session and will be held via Zoom.
