BELLEFONTE -- For several Centre County entities, help is on the way.
At Tuesday's Centre County commissioners' meeting, it was announced that several groups and non-profits are part of a community development block grant. Chair Michael Pipe said that the distribution of funds was a "rather important and large item."
"The money is now available, it can be dispersed out," Pipe said.
The allocation of funds was approved by the commissioners on Aug. 11, 2020.
The recipients of the funds are: Seven Mountains EMS Council ($40,875), Centre Volunteers in Medicine ($10,000), Centre Safe ($45,377), Chamber of Business and Industry of Centre County ($43,300) and Bellefonte Borough ($59,974).
"Those identified were submitted to DCED by SEDA-COG by Aug. 31," said Ray Stolinas, Centre County's Planning and Community Development Director. "We subsequently received a grant approval on Nov. 2 for $166,152 for Centre County."
Seven Mountains EMS Council will use the funds for "necessary emergency response equipment." CVIM will use its funding for COVID-19 testing kits. Centre Safe will use its funding for shelters and hotels to keep social distancing guidelines during the pandemic. CBICC will use its funds to assist small businesses in the county.
The subrecipient agreement was unanimously passed by the county commissioners.
In other business Tuesday, the commissioners:
-- Approved a proposal from Mission Critical Partners for the Southern Alleghenies 911 Cooperative grant projects including the regional CAD project $10,000, regional ALI service project $16,140 and the regional ESINet port monitoring project $19,053.25. Mission Critical Partners will provide support related to technology, planning, evaluation, procurement, configuration, migration, transition and implementation support. The project total is $45,193.25, which is funded through a PEMA grant for the period of Feb. 9, 2021 through Feb. 8, 2022. The item was added to next week's consent agenda.
-- Approved a contract with Watkins Security, LLC to perform the services outlined in an RFP for the Centre County camera project. The amount of the contract is $480,576.
-- Approved submission of the Hazardous Material Emergency Response Preparedness for the period of July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022. That item was moved to next week's consent agenda.
-- Reminded residents that the free COVID-19 testing site is up and running through Saturday, Feb. 27 at its new location, 1155 Benner Pike, Suite 120. Testing is available from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesdays through Saturdays. Those getting tested are asked to bring ID and a health insurance card.
The commissioners will meet again at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 9. That meeting will be held via Zoom and televised live on C-NET.
