McELHATTAN -- Whether you're an advanced ice skater or a beginner just learning how to glide across an ice surface, you're invited to spend some time at the ice skating rink in Wayne Township which is now open.
The rink is adjacent to the Little League baseball field in the recreation park and members of the recreation committee report that the ice is frozen solid and ready for skaters.
Although local folks have complained recently about the cold temperatures, those who enjoy ice skating know that it's those cold days and nights that make the ice just right for skating.
Some of the youngsters have been learning to skate at the park.
Kennedy Calhoun, 9, of Bellefonte, has enjoyed spending time with her grandparents, David and Mona Calhoun of McElhattan while getting her first taste of ice skating. She's been using a walker to steady herself on the slippery surface and getting braver and more proficient.
On Saturday, the Wayne Township Recreation Authority is planning a special skate for all youngsters and adults from 2-4 p.m., with hot chocolate and donuts for all.
Everyone's invited to come out, no matter their skating ability, and enjoy some ice skating, a cup of cocoa and a donut, and the fun and fellowship of a community that offers numerous recreational opportunities to its residents and visitors.
