LOCK HAAVEN -- Residents wanting a cup of coffee from Avenue 209 or Wendy's early Thursday morning were turned down due to a water break that forced a boil water advisory for residents and businesses in the 200 and 300 blocks of Bellefonte Avenue.
Wendy's remains open, but not serving certain menu items, according to an employee there. Wendy's offers bottled water to its customers.
Meanwhile Avenue 209 closed its Bellefonte Avenue restaurant and referred customers to their location at the Roxy Theater on East Main Street where they will offer a limited menu from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Saturday.
Avenue 209 manager Jared Conti said the water department recommended not using the water at Avenue until Monday, when he plans to reopen the Bellefonte Avenue coffee shop.
An alert was released by the City Water Department on Thursday informing residents and businesses of 203, 209, 307, 311 & 328 Bellefonte Avenue of the water break near the railroad tracks on Bellefonte Avenue on Wednesday that may cause increased risk for Microbial Contamination. The break has been repaired.
However, residents are advised by the water company to not drink the water without boiling it first. Bring all water to a rolling boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using; or use bottled water. Residents should use boiled or bottled water for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth, and food preparation until further notice, according to a press release from the Water Department, which will notify residents when they no longer need to boil their water, probably as soon as Monday.
