Acorn School students enjoy annual Easter Egg Hunt

LOCK HAVEN -- As the children moved into the room with their Easter baskets in hand, one could see their eyes get wide. Easter eggs were everywhere.
Their baskets weren't empty for long.
Acorn School education director Melissa Litz counted down the seconds and the pre-school youngsters were off and running, filling their baskets with the colored plastic eggs.
In less than a minute, it was over.
"They had a lot of fun," Litz said, who noted that the parents contributed the eggs for the hunt. "They're all donated."
Originally, the Easter egg hunt was supposed to take place outside the Acorn School. However, a steady morning rain pushed the event inside.
Still, that didn't stop students from having fun.
"We did a lot of things for Easter," Litz said.
Even in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Litz said the school is getting creative when it comes to gatherings and special events for the students.
"We've learned how to deal with it," she said.
Everyone who attended the event was masked. The students wore creative face masks. As far as masks are concerned, students had a wide range. There was everything from Easter-themed masks to Spiderman. Some were plain, some were colorful.
"We're still doing good with the masks. They wear the masks every day and they really don't seem to have any issues with it," Litz noted.
Litz said that it's important to keep some of the Acorn School's traditions. At Christmastime, they hosted a caroling event in the parking lot. In May, the school will have its traditional "graduation" ceremony.
"We're looking into getting them caps and gowns," Litz said.
Graduation at the Acorn School is scheduled for Tuesday, May 26.
