Howard woman pleads guilty to strangling baby

BELLEFONTE — A Howard woman, charged by state police at Rockview in September 2019 with strangling an infant, has entered a guilty plea in Centre County Court.

Mindy Jackson, 30, entered the plea on Friday on charges of strangulation and aggravated assault. Her guilty plea agreement calls for a minimum sentence of six-to-12 years and a maximum of eight-to-20 years.

Sentencing is set for June 3 and the defendant remains incarcerated at the Centre County Correctional Facility.

Police charged her with abusing the infant several times, including slamming the child into a swing set.

Authorities said the child suffered life-threatening injuries which required treatment at Geisinger Medical Center. A pediatrician said the infant sustained a brain injury that likely will affect the child the rest of its life.
