More than 600 get vaccine shots at Dunnstown clinic

The clinic held by UPMC at the Dunnstown Fire Hall had a steady flow of patients throughout the day.
DUNNSTOWN -- It was a smooth sailing Thursday for those who received either their first or second dose of COVID vaccine at the Dunnstown Fire Co.
For the past few months, UPMC has been utilizing the fire company building in order to administer as many shots as they can to combat COVID in Clinton County -- a county with one of the lowest ratios of given vaccinations in central Pennsylvania.
A total of 675 shots were scheduled to be administered Thursday, said UPMC Manager Becky Levi.
On top of the substantial amount of shots given out yesterday, Levi said UPMC should reach the collective total amount of 4,400 administered vaccinations since the clinic started. As of right now, she said that anyone over the age of 16 is eligible to sign up and get in line to get vaccinated.
The fire hall was filled with all walks of life and ages getting their shots. It was a turnout that members of UPMC have been hoping for.
"We have had a pretty good day so far here, despite switching from a Wednesday to a Thursday due to a conflict with the fire company," said UPMC nurse Jenson Confer.
UPMC has been giving about 500 shots at Dunnstown on any given Wednesday and told the Clinton County commissioners earlier this week that they have enough vaccine to give twice that number, encouraging people who need the shots to just call and get an appointment.
Of those who got vaccinated, several folks were happy to talk about their experience.
"My first shot took a little while due to a long line but this one was very thorough and went smoothly," said Colline Patrick.
"It was great! Simple and fast, just in and out. It was also very simple to apply to get it," exclaimed Rod Weaver.
"It went very well, being my first shot. It was honestly as smooth and simple when applying too," said Steven Lehman.
"It went well! It was my first shot and it was a smooth and simple process," said Ashley Jones.
Overall, the turnout at the Dunnstown Fire Co. was a positive one for both the staff from UPMC as well as those who were vaccinated.
