BELLEFONTE -- Although some businesses in Pennsylvania have begun to ask their employees to get vaccinated, Centre County Government has no plans for such a requirement, Centre County commissioner Michael Pipe said on Tuesday.
With cases of COVID-19 skyrocketing in Centre County, the question was asked during the commissioners' weekly meeting.
"We've been doing a lot of research in terms of our current policies. Ever since vaccines have become available, we have advertised to our employees the availability of them," Pipe said. "It's a very changing area, but at this time, we are not."
Pipe said that the county is keeping a close eye on things.
"As things change … every hour, it seems we're getting new information about the Delta variant and potentially new ones. We are following it," Pipe said.
Centre County Government recently brought back its mask mandate. County employees and anyone entering a county office building is required to wear a mask.
On Tuesday, Centre County reported 15 new COVID-19 cases, bringing its total to 17,455, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
Centre County administrator Margaret Gray reminded residents that the AMI COVID-19 testing site remains open on the "current schedule" -- from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, until Tuesday, Aug. 31. The testing site is located at the Centre County Recycling & Refuse Authority Interpretive Center, 253 Transfer Road in Bellefonte.
"At that point in time, a new site will be determined and the Department of Health will continue that testing resource for Centre County," Gray said. "We are in the process of identifying a new site."
To get a test, a valid ID is required.
Individuals with insurance will be asked to provide an insurance card; however, no co-pay or any other cost is charged to the individual. Uninsured individuals will also be tested without cost to the person.
Anyone needing to be tested may access this site regardless of residency.
