LOCK HAVEN -- Two new Little Red Libraries have been installed in town by the Rotary Club of Downtown Lock Haven.

One of the new Little Libraries is at Piper-Harmon Playground, at East Bald Eagle Street, and the other is at the bottom of the steps to the city beach and levee pavilion, at the north end of Vesper Street.

Tom Brown of T.L. Brown & Son Contractors has built and installed all the local libraries, shaped like little red schoolhouses. He has been a community partner in the project since it started in 2019.

Faber Burner Company and Marconi's Service Station have contributed to the construction of the two newest libraries.

There are now six Little Red Libraries in Lock Haven, all sponsored by Downtown Rotary and built by Brown. You can find one in Triangle Park, Hanna Park, Hoberman Park, and Hammermill Park, as well as at Piper-Harmon Playground and the Vesper Street levee steps. The city has graciously provided a space for each of them next to a sidewalk, for convenient access.

The Little Red Libraries have books for all reading levels, from adults to young adults to kids. The libraries are a place to find your next book and take it home for free, or to leave a book you've read for someone else to enjoy. They are specifically for books and magazines.

Brown has added a sturdy hook to the posts of some Little Libraries. Readers can hang a bag on the hook, a leash, or anything else they may be carrying, while they browse through the titles.

The Downtown Rotarians add books to each Little Library when they can, with help from the larger community. Neighborhoods have come to love their Little Libraries and also help keep the books fresh.

Everyone is invited to visit a Little Red Library and take a book, leave a book, or do both.
