LOCK HAVEN -- Election season is coming up and Clinton County is gearing up for the ballots to come in.

The Director of Voter Registration and Elections, Maria Boileau, spoke in front of the Clinton County Commissioners Monday morning, updating the county on next month's election. She explained in-detail about the registration process, specifically with mail-in and absentee ballots.

The election is set for Tuesday, Nov. 2 with the last day to register to vote being on Oct. 18. Boileau related that the last day to apply for a mail-in or absentee ballot is on Oct. 26. According to Boileau, the county mailed 1,452 ballots last Friday, which voters should get this week. Ballots will be mailed to only those who applied for one.

For those dropping off ballots, there is a ballot box located in front of the Piper building that is "unlocked and ready to go," according to Boileau. The box is under 24-hour camera surveillance and only the voter may deliver their ballot to the Piper building, and only there.

Commissioner Angela Harding asked Boileau about how often the ballot box is emptied. Boileau said that the box is typically emptied two to three times per day.

"It depends on how busy it is. In the morning, usually at lunch, and usually after the mail arrives," she said.

Boileau also gave an update on the total number of voters located in Clinton County. She said that there are currently a total of 21,885 registered voters in the county. A total of 7,233 are registered Democrat, 11,829 are registered Republican, 117 are registered Libertarian, 25 are registered Green and the rest are "other."

Currently, Porter Township and Allison Township are still in need of more poll workers, Boileau said.

For those people who want to register to vote or want to update their voter registration, they can either go online to vote.pa.gov and download an application. They can also call the elections office at (570) 893-4019 with any questions or concerns they may have.
