LHU announces spring semester return plan

LOCK HAVEN -- Lock Haven University students will attend classes online during its first week of the spring semester.

That's the word from LHU officials which announced the university's 2022 semester return plan. Classes are slated to begin on Monday, Jan. 24.

The university will continue all classes the week of Monday, Jan. 31 as regularly scheduled – in-person, hybrid or online.

By starting the semester online, it will allow time for the expected post-holiday surge in COVID-19 cases to subside, a release from LHU said.

The university will also stagger the move-in schedule and provide a robust testing protocol for students living on campus. All students residing on campus will be required to have a negative COVID test before being permitted to complete the move-in process.

Testing will take place at the Student Recreation Center. All students will be required to test, regardless of vaccination status, with the exception of those who can provide proof of an active COVID infection within the 90 days prior to on-boarding.

Bashar Hanna, LHU interim president, hopes off-campus students will take advantage of testing as well.

"We are excited for the start of the spring 2022 semester and the return of our students to our campus," said Hanna. "Our campus community has been diligent following the safety protocols, and I know they will continue to do what is necessary to ensure a healthy and safe semester of learning."

In addition, masks will continue to be required to be worn inside all campus buildings by all students, faculty, staff and guests.

LHU will offer surveillance testing on Mondays and Thursdays at Woolridge Hall. Symptomatic testing will continue to be available to students at Glennon Health Services.
