BELLEFONTE -- With Election Day less than a month away, Centre County continues to prepare.
During Tuesday's Centre County commissioners' meeting, Beth Lechman, Director of Elections and Voter Registration, asked the board for approval of some supplies needed for Election Day 2022.
The supplies needed, she said, were Franklin booths, which came in at $23,100 and several A-Frame "Vote Here" signs, which had a total cost of $12,495. All told, the cost tallied $35,595.
"(These) are for use at the polling locations in Centre County," Lechman explained.
The items will be purchased from Election IQ, LLC, Lechman said.
She did ask that one item -- tabletop privacy screens -- be tabled because the company could not guarantee the delivery prior to Election Day.
"I am asking that we table or scratch the tabletop privacy screens. They will not have them in time for election and their cost is slightly higher … I'm not asking that we purchase those," Lechman said.
The BOC approved the $35,595 purchase unanimously.
According to Chair Michael Pipe, those funds will come from the HAVA Grant.
"That's the one we received in 2020 and we have about some $80,000 to spend down," Pipe said.
Election Day in the Commonwealth is Tuesday, Nov. 8.
In other business Tuesday, the commissioners:
-- Approved Proclamation No. 35 of 2022, proclaiming Sept. 15, 2022 to Oct. 15, 2022 as Hispanic Heritage Month in Centre County.
-- Approved Proclamation No. 36 of 2022, proclaiming October 2022 as Cybersecurity Awareness Month in Centre County.
-- Approved the chimney stake removal at the old Centre Crest building with Howell Masonry. The contract total is estimated at $12,850.00.
-- Approved a contract with Berkshire Systems Groups, Inc. to provide annual fire alarm and sprinkler system inspections and testing at the Courthouse. The contract total is $2,960 for the period of Jan. 1, 2023 to Dec. 31, 2023.
-- Approved a contract renewal with Swartz Fire and Safety Equipment Co., Inc. to provide Annual National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) maintenance and inspections of the fire extinguishers and the semi-annual inspections for the Kitchen Fire Suppression System at the Correctional Facility and the Centre Crest building. Expected amount for the Willowbank Building over two years is $5,480. Expected amount for CCCF over two years is $3,000. Expected amount for Centre Crest over two years is $1,750. The contract total is $10,230 for the period of Jan. 1, 2023 to Dec. 31, 2024.
-- Approved a contract renewal with PAC Industries, Inc. to provide scheduled maintenance to the laundry equipment at the Centre County Correctional Facility. The contract total is $7,200 for the period Jan. 1, 2023 to Dec. 31, 2025.
-- Approved contract renewal with Brightly Software, Inc. formally Facility Dude Solutions to provide services for the maintenance work order system. The contract total is $9,056.52 for the period of Jan. 1, 2023 to Dec. 31, 2025.
The Centre County Board of Commissioners will meet again at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 18, at the Willowbank Building. The meeting is open to the public and will be televised live by C-NET.
