JERSEY SHORE -- As budget season nears, Ben Enders, business manager at the Jersey Shore Area School District, gave board members a first look at what those figures might look like.
At this week's board meeting, Enders shared that the district currently has about a $300,000 projected deficit between expenses and income in the 2023-24 budget. Enders listed expenditures at $45.7 million and revenue at $45.4 million.
There are still items that will be included in the final budget that are not known at this time, Enders noted.
In other business, under finance, the board approved the following: a full-service service and maintenance 60-month lease agreement with Topp Business Solutions for copiers; the Primeroedge new food service point of sale software quote of $5,970 to be paid with food service funds; the 2023-24 art supplies bid award/CSIU to various vendors for a total award of $15,261; and the 2023-24 general supply bid award/CSIU to various vendors for a total award of $30,721.
Under personnel items, the board accepted the resignations of Hayley Potter, sports game staff person, and Theresa Cummings, accounts payable secretary.
The following persons were approved unanimously by the board for the positions listed at the rate of pay or stipend, if applicable: Scott Kendall, volunteer track and field coach; Adam Kline, head junior high girls' basketball coach, $4,111; Michael Hopkins, custodian, salary correction to $15 per hour; transfer of Stacy Edkin from part-time food service worker to food service substitute, $11.50 per hour; David Herman, wrestling head coach, $7,474; Tyree Kirkpatrick, boys' basketball head coach, $6,726; Laura Eck, cheerleading coach, $4,230; and Kelly Butzler, swimming head coach, $4,320.
Darrin Bischof was hired as girls' basketball head coach with a stipend of $7,474 on a 7-2 vote. Board members voting for hiring Bischof were Michael Allen, Michelle Stemler, Angela Grant, Mary Thomas, Wayne Kinley, Kayla Calhoun and Jessie Edwards. Voting "no" were Nancy Petrosky and Patrice Doebler.
Other agenda items approved by the board included the three year guaranteed admissions MOU between the district and Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania; the license agreement between the district and the state's Department of Environmental Protection regarding an air monitoring station at Salladasburg Elementary School; an agreement between the district and the Pennsylvania College of Technology regarding school nursing student's clinical experience, effective July 1, 2023 through July 1, 2025; and the placing of several items for sale on Municibid by the administration.
The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. on April 24.
