MILL HALL -- First responders were called in mid afternoon on Monday for a fire taking place at a barn located along Ferree Lane in Bald Eagle Township, just down the road from Central Mountain High School.

On the scene, Christopher Moore, of the Beech Creek-Blanchard Volunteer Fire Company, was able to confirm a barn fire turned brush fire on Monday afternoon, around 4 p.m.

Smoke from the blaze could be seen clearly from the parking lot of the school, where many community members gathered to watch the first responders do their job.

With dry air, lower-than-average precipitation totals and gusts of wind, the National Weather Service warned of increased wildfire conditions earlier this week, as detailed in Monday's paper.

This week's forecast has been showing an extended period of unseasonably warm and dry air, but with the possibility of relief coming over the weekend in the form of showers on Saturday and Sunday.

According to Moore, Mill Hall, Salona, Beech Creek-Blanchard and Lock Haven fire departments were all there to assist as of the time of this writing.
