ROTE -- Lamar Township updated its contract with Mill Hall Police Department.
Township supervisors voted to adopt their first resolution of the year, Resolution No. 01-2023, for their contract with the police department. The contract will include a $5 rate increase for the department's coverage in the township.
"It (the resolution) says exactly what we agreed to. To pay for the services performed under the agreement at a current rate of $55 to a rate of $60, which would be a $5 increase," township secretary, Tracy Roberts, said.
The supervisors also announced they sold the old Lamar Township police car. The vehicle went up for rebid for $17,100 and was sold to Richard Twomey.
Previously, the vehicle went up for bid in February on Municibid. Due to concerns with the process during March's meeting, supervisors voted to rebid the vehicle. Supervisor Dan Chappell abstained from the vote during March's meeting.
The constable for the township, Donald Tressler, Sr., originally bid on the vehicle but had not received an email stating the bid was over. The supervisors chose to rebid the vehicle, starting at the ending bid of $8,700. The new bid came out to be almost double with an $8,400 difference.
The supervisors' vote to put the vehicle up for rebid in March, according to chairman Wade Vonada, was a "good move."
"That was a good move. We made the taxpayers some money," Vonada said regarding the vehicle sale.
In other business, the Rote yard sales will be held Saturday, April 22. A portable restroom will be available at the township building during the sales.
