LOCK HAVEN -- Weis Markets potential Gas N Go project at the intersection of Bellefonte Avenue and Commerce Street was given the go ahead.
Lock Haven City Planning Commission approved the project's land development application with conditions during its meeting on April 4.
Alex Ororsia, who represented Weis Markets, attended the meeting Tuesday night and addressed any questions or concerns the board had. The project's engineer, Joe Gurney from First Capital Engineering, presented plans and also addressed questions.
The 3-pump gas station will feature six fueling locations, and air pump station and a small kiosk operated by one employee.
Orosia told the planning commission the station will accept Weis points and have the same operating hours as the neighboring Weis Market.
After discussion of the project and plan for development, the planning commission unanimously approved the development plan under three conditions:
-- PennDOT approval
-- Further comments from the city engineer, Gwin Dobson & Foreman, must be addressed.
-- James Alley must be widened to at least 24 feet to allow for two-way traffic.
Abbey Roberts, the city's Planner & Development Coordinator, praised the Planning Commission for how they addressed the development.
"Everyone reviewed the plans and expressed their concerns for the increased traffic in the block. Requiring James Alley to be widened as a condition of the approval will improve the functionality of the block and alleviate the existing traffic concerns that would be heightened by this development," Roberts said.
Roberts also mentioned the access closest to the intersection of Bellefonte Avenue and Commerce Street will be closed as part of this development.
The board asked for the other Bellefonte Avenue access to be "entrance only." This topic will ultimately be addressed as Weis Market responds to PennDOT's comments on the development.
Five members of the planning commission were present at the meeting as well as Roberts and Cyndi Walker, Director of Permits & Licensing.
City staff will continue to monitor the project and plan revisions as the project progresses.
