LOCK HAVEN -- Over 450 individuals participated in the 19th Annual Kent's Fest.
The annual event, specially made to highlight local individuals with exceptionalities, made it's big return after a three year hiatus yesterday. Held in Lock Haven University's East Campus Gymnasium on West Main Street, the room was filled with excitement and jubilee. The event was free for the whole public to enjoy.
This year's theme was Road Trip U.S.A with song selections based off of traveling across the country.
Nine school districts attended this year's Kent's Fest, with a total of 37 classrooms, showing off their musical talents. The event provides a musical talent show for children and adults with disabilities from Clinton, Centre and Lycoming counties. The previous Kent's Fest in 2019 had more than 450 participants involved, with more than 500 community members in attendance.
"Kent's Fest is the opportunity for local individuals with exceptionalities to be able to display their musical talents and abilities for everyone here in the community," said Kent's Fest director, Dr. Erica Moore. "We were on hiatus due to COVID. 2019 was the last time we had it, so everybody is really excited for being able to bring it back after three years. About 450 individuals are participating, and of course the community and family members that come along with that."
Dr. Moore is an LHU associate professor and Department Campus Lead of Exceptionality Programs. She has been directing the annual event for 11 years now.
Kent's Fest was originally named after Kent Glossner, an LHU special education alumni, who passed away in 2001. LHU students volunteered and helped in the planning and implementation of the event.
Kent's Fest lasted from about 9:30 a.m. till 2 p.m. yesterday. The event was supported by a $5,000 grant from the Clinton County Community Foundation, Inc. The Son's of Italy of Lock Haven also sponsor the event.
