Woodward enters lease with Clearwater; updates public on walkway construction
CHASE BOTTORF/THE EXPRESS Construction of the walkway to Riverview Park is well underway.
LOCKPORT — Clearwater Construction, Inc. has entered into a lease with Woodward Township.
Clearwater Construction is responsible for the walkway construction to Riverview Park.
The supervisors approved a lease with the company to move their equipment into the triangle area at the lower end of Riverview Park. Currently, they have their machine equipment on the township’s stone parking area for riverlots.
“We had to put a lease together for them to rent that area from us, and our expectation of what we want to see when its completed. So it’s returned to the way it is now; maybe some improvements as well,” Supervisor Kyle Coleman said.
Along with the lease, several trees were cut down for the walkway project. Clearwater Construction’s equipment would help clean up leftover stumps.
“We have discussed there have been some trees cut down there with stumps and we’d like to see them pulled out while they have a machine to do it,” Coleman said.
Clearwater Construction is planning to put in a stone driveway at the park to loop trucks out. According to Coleman, the supervisors have discussed keeping a piece of roadway at the pump station in the park. It will be in order for the township’s sewer department to utilize the pump station.
The walkway project is planned to be completed by June 2024 and will provide safer access for city residents to walk across Veterans Bridge to Riverview Park.
In other business, Woodward Township entered into a new agreement with Dunnstown Fire Company. The new agreement will last three years, according to the township’s solicitor, Thom Rosamilia. The previous agreement only lasted one year.
“The agreement we have, just between us and the Dunnstown Fire Company, expired at the end of the year. This is just to institute a new agreement for them to provide fire services to the township,” Rosamilia said.
The new agreement was extended to three years, he added.
It will provide fire services with the township providing workers compensation and a fire tax for the fire company. Coleman and Supervisor John Barth approved the agreement. Supervisor Mike Fetzer, who is the president of the Dunnstown Fire Company, abstained from the vote.
Supervisor John Barth and Fetzer were officially appointed to the recreation committee. The two supervisors will be on the committee to help out until they can get more volunteers.
The supervisors also approved the resolution from Seven Mountains EMS for EMS week that will run from May 21 to 27.
