Memorial Day is getting closer and closer, and area municipalities are beginning to prepare for annual parades.
The following parades are scheduled in this area on May 29:
BEECH CREEK/BLANCHARD
The Beech Creek American Legion Memorial Day Parade is May 29. Line up starts at 9 a.m. in Blanchard at the Liberty Baptist Cemetery. There will be signs up for the parade units to follow to the cemetery. The parade will start at 10 a.m. and end at the Beech Creek Legion grounds. Any questions please call Bill at 570-660-2568.
LOGANTON
Loganton Borough's annual Memorial Day Parade will begin at 2 p.m. Immediately following the parade, there will be a service at the Honor Roll in front of First National Bank. Dustin Kinley will be this year's speaker. Along with a parade, other events and vendors will be featured. The following churches will have food stands: St. John United Church of Christ will have sandwiches, drinks and desserts. Albright United Methodist will have hot dogs, chips and drinks. A Tractor Show will also take place at the east end of the borough and Sugar Valley Volunteer Fire Company will have a chicken bar-b-que dinner after the parade from 4 to 7 p.m. The meal can be eaten at the fire hall or taken out.
SALLADASBURG
Salladasburg's Memorial Day Parade will take place at 11 a.m. Participants typically include patriotic floats or decorated vehicles, antique cars and tractors, kids on decorated bicycles, riding horses, Scout troops, Little League teams and Military service members. Those that want to be part of the parade should be in line on Dochter Street before 10:45 a.m. The parade will be led by the Jersey Shore Area High School Marching Band and will also include fire engines from both Jersey Shore fire companies. Immediately following the parade there will be a ceremony to honor the local veterans. The ceremony will take place in the Salladasburg United Methodist Church parking lot. The National Anthem will be sung by Keith Barrows. Pastor Cecily Eisley will be doing the invocation. Dr. Daniel Glunk will recite Lincoln's Gettysburg Address and then the roll call of the veterans will be read by Mayor Douglas Ellsworth, followed by Taps and a 21 gun salute by The Jersey Shore Honor Guard.
