BELLEFONTE --With 11 candidates cross-filed on the Primary ballots, only one lost their chance for a spot in the November election for five open seats on the Bellefonte Area School District Board of Directors.
According to unofficial totals released by Centre County, the Republican ticket will hold Tim Kessling, Kimberly Weaver, Patrick Vincent Buck, Darrell Sharp and Jennifer N. Barnhart; the Democratic ticket will have Julie Fitzgerald, Donna Smith, Paul Dombrowski, Joe Yech and Denelle Korin.
For the Democratic ballot, the candidate with the most votes was Fitzgerald, who had 1,395 total votes, with 748 in-person votes and 647 absentee/mail-in votes.
The rest of the individuals who will appear on the ticket weren't far behind in terms of total votes, Smith 1,357 total votes, 729 in person votes and 628 absentee/mail-in votes; Dombrowski had 1,097 votes, 560 in-person and 537 absentee/mail-in votes; Yech had 1,027 votes, 552 in-person votes and 475 absentee/mail-in votes; and Korin had 992 votes, 506 in-person votes and 486 absentee/mail-in votes.
The total votes cast were 8,720 for the Democratic ballot, with 4,785 in-person votes and 3,935 absentee/mail-in votes.
For the Republican ballot, the candidate with the most votes was Tim Kessling, who had a total of 1,780 votes, 1,536 of which were cast in person and 244 absentee/mail-in.
The rest of the candidates followed close behind in this race as well, Weaver received 1,643 total votes, 1,422 in-person votes and 221 absentee/mail-in; Buck received 1,550 votes, 1,340 in-person votes and 210 absentee/mail-in votes; Sharp received 1,532 votes, 1,315 in-person votes and 217 absentee/mail-in votes; while Barnhart received 1,494 votes, 1,313 in-person votes and 181 absentee/mail-in votes.
The total votes cast for the Republican ballot were 11,341, with 9,631 in-person votes and 1,710 absentee/mail-in votes.
According to the statistics listed on centrecountyvotes.gov, there were 24,590 ballots cast during the 2023 primary election with 82,632 total registered voters.
Beth Lechman, Director of Elections & Voter Registration, said official election results will be confirmed May 30, at 3 p.m.
