‘Showcase’: KC, fair assoc. collab for events

MILL HALL -- Keystone Central School District has announced a collaboration with the Clinton County Fair Association to host exciting Student Showcases at each of its elementary schools throughout May.
Students are encouraged to create projects that highlight their interests, hobbies and talents. They also may choose to share an inquiry project or display a project that demonstrates their knowledge of self-selected topics.
School Showcases will be held on the following dates and times:
-- May 10 at Robb Elementary from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
-- May 16 at Renovo Elementary from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
-- May 17 at Liberty-Curtin Elementary from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
-- May 17 at Mill Hall Elementary from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
-- May 25 at Woodward Elementary from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Each Showcase will feature student exhibits and family-centered, fun activities.
KCSD is committed to teaching all students academic skills and higher critical thinking skills, otherwise known as the "Keystones to Success" which includes Effective Communication, Creative Problem Solver, Respectful Collaborator and Responsible Citizen.
"The KCSD Student Showcase provides a chance for students to build lifelong skills while exploring their own personal interests and passion -- what a great way to learn," according to Superintendent Dr. Jacquelyn Martin.
Elementary Science Department Program Leader, Manda Mosier, is responsible for the development and leadership of this event.
"With this year being the 50th Anniversary of the Clinton County Fair, we were presented with a unique opportunity to showcase our students' talents, interest and hobbies not only at a school event, but also to encourage the students to enter their projects in our county fair," Mosier said. "Students are involved in activities outside of school and have special talents that are not always able to be shared within our schools and this gives everyone a chance to be proud of what makes them unique."
To promote the projects Clinton County Fair Queen, Miss Bryley Miller, visited each of the district's five elementary buildings in March and April.
Her presentation received rave reviews from the students and sparked many young creators to begin thinking about their showcase projects and the possibility of entering their projects at the 50th Annual 2023 Clinton County Fair.
The Keystone Central Foundation is also supporting this initiative by paying the entry fee for any elementary student who chooses to submit their project as an exhibit at the upcoming county fair.
The Clinton County Fair Association is a community-based organization that promotes cultural, educational and economic opportunities for residents of Clinton County. The association organizes events and activities throughout the year, including the annual fair, which attracts visitors from across the region.
"A Student Showcase collaborating with a local fair association is a great way to promote the connection between schools and the community," a release from the district said. "As the showcase continues year to year, our goal is to maintain this strong connection to the fair and give our students a platform to demonstrate their learning in a more personal and public way. This will also allow the community to see our students grow and develop as young learners and see the potential of our local youth."
Barb Forshey, fair representative, added, "The Clinton County Fair is excited to be partnering with Keystone Central. It gives the students an opportunity to enter their projects into the fair to be judged. An amazing group of leaders have been working hard to put these events together to showcase many of the same things you will see at the Clinton County Fair -- July 29 thru Aug. 5, 2023. We are appreciative of the encouragement of our younger generation to be part of the fair and to help continue a proud community event."
