LOCK HAVEN -- Thousands flocked to downtown Lock Haven for Downtown Lock Haven, Inc.'s annual Best of Clinton County.
The day-long festival, which saw Main Street closed from morning until night on Saturday, featured something for everyone. From art and craft vendors, informational booths, a wide range of food from local restaurants and others, and a plethora of kids games to keep the youngest family members happy -- it was easy to fill the day up.
This included large inflatable games, such as in obstacle course, bounce house and slide; a climbing wall courtesy of the National Guard; and large games like Curling (courtesy of the Clinton County Community Foundation), giant board games and spike ball.
Volunteers noted the inflatables in particular were a lot of fun for the kids and their families.
And with sunny skies and a nice breeze to keep everyone cool, it was the perfect day to celebrate Clinton County and highlight some of its local businesses, artists and vendors.
When 3:30 p.m. hit, the sidewalks along Main Street were packed tightly with those young and old, excited to see the annual parade. Kids inched near the roadway, plastic bags in their hands ready to snatch up any candy that was thrown their way.
The parade featured staples such as fire trucks, the Clinton County Fair -- which celebrates its 50th year in 2023, dancers from Turbulence and Haven Dance, the Central Mountain Indoor Color Guard and large trucks for Truckers4Hope.
With the theme focused on celebrating all the municipalities within the county, many went all out. There were highlights such as Mill Hall Borough -- whose float was decked out as a pool; residents of Castanea were crazy for their township, wearing colorful wigs and carrying a large sign spelling out their home; and Keating Township's elusive Giwoggle came out of hiding to wave to the crowds.
DLH Manager Kira Rosamilia, who organized the event with support of the non-profit's board of directors and its committees, was excited to see the day turn out so well.
"I'm so excited! The sun was out, the weather was great and everyone turned out for an awesome day downtown," Rosamilia said.
Rosamilia gave a huge thank you to the volunteers that turned out to help set up and assisted throughout the day.
"We had a great volunteer turn out. I really appreciated that," she said.
