BELLEFONTE -- Three people sustained fatal injuries and another sustained serious bodily injury as the result of two periodic crashes along Interstate 80 in Boggs Township, according to state police at Rockview.

During the first crash at 12:04 a.m. on June 20, a collision took place when a tractor trailer went off the right side of the roadway and down an embankment, disabling its passenger car, police said.

The driver of that vehicle sustained minor injuries, police said.

A pedestrian approached the scene on foot and was struck by a passenger car due to the force of a collision caused by a secondary crash. They were taken by helicopter to UPMC Altoona for serious bodily injury, police said.

The second crash took place when a different tractor trailer struck the disabled passenger car of the previous crash, police said.

Two occupants were ejected from the second vehicle. They sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash, police said.

Another passenger, remaining in the vehicle, also sustained fatal injuries, police said.
