McELHATTAN -- The Wayne Township Landfill began a trial run of plastic wrap recycling.
Announced during the monthly Solid Waste Authority board meeting Wednesday, General Manager Jay Alexander said the landfill is currently collecting plastic water case wrapping, pallet wrapping, produce and grocery bags, salt bags and more.
"We are doing a test on plastic wrap recycling in-house to see whether it's something logistically we can handle. We are doing testing internally to see if it's something we want to talk further about," Alexander said.
Across the landfill's campus, employees are collecting any form of plastic wrapping for the trial.
"I thought we'd be good test dummies, so let's experiment at the recycling building, the shop, the plant and in the office building," Alexander said.
The 22nd Annual John B. Hoy, Jr., Charity Golf Tournament is set to be held on Sept. 29. Board members Wednesday voted on two of several local charities that will be beneficiaries for this year's golf tournament. The two popular winners were The Good Neighbor Center and The Clinton County Historical Society. The benefits of the tournament's raffle will also be going towards the Covenant United Methodist Church. Sponsorships are still being accepted for the tournament. In other business, the landfill's annual tire collection was held May 12 and 13. The collection event brought in a total of 6,375 tires from municipalities across Clinton County and parts of Lycoming County.
For the month of May, the landfill brought in $1.8 million in revenue with about $1.4 million in expenses, according to Alexander. The tonnage for the month averaged 1,042 tons per day.
"We had a good month," Alexander said.
