Clinton County Fair kicks off 50th year today

LOCK HAVEN -- It's time for the Clinton County Fair's Golden Anniversary -- and organizers have a jam packed week filled with food, fun, music and highlights of the area's agriculture.

The fair opens today with youngsters preparing their variety of farm animals such as beef, sheep, hogs, goats, poultry and rabbits.

Registrations for antique tractors and open agriculture, youth, grange, group exhibits and home economics start as well.

Saturday will see the official opening ceremonies at 3 p.m., followed by the crowning of 2023's Clinton County Fair Queen.

Seven area girls are competing for this year's title. They include: Skyenne Kramer, Adysyn Phillips, Catherine Lavallee, Margaret "Maggie" Park, Gracie Johnson, Elizabeth "Izzy" Walker and Christina "Chrissy" Smith.

Other events taking place Saturday include the Chili Cook Off, Baked Goods Auction, Figure Eight and Demolition Derby, along with performances by Aaron Kelly.

Each day at 5 p.m., head to the Commercial Building for a special Clinton County Fair 50th Celebration.

Sunday at 10:30 a.m. will see the Little Princess contest at the Main Stage where 33 young girls are competing in four different categories.

Monday is UPMC Day and will feature the Homemade Chocolate Baking Contest, Junior Baking Contest, Blue Ribbon Apple Pie Contest and Angel Food Cake Contest along with the Clinton County Youth and FFA Sheep Show.

Also taking place is opening and closing ceremonies for the Sugar Valley Rural Charter School FFA at the Auxiliary stage at 6 p.m.

And don't miss Raymond the Amish Comic -- a rated PG-13 performance -- on the Auxiliary Stage at 8 p.m.

Tuesday is Senior Citizens Day. Those 60 and up will be admitted free with UPMC providing Health and Wellness Screenings at 10 a.m. and Free Senior Bingo taking place at 11 a.m. at the Commercial Building.

Heather Olson will perform a Tribute to Patsy Cline on the Main Stage twice, at 2 and 6 p.m.; and Sizzling Seniors Talent Show will give those snazzy seniors a chance to strut their stuff at 3 p.m.

That night, Flashback will perform twice on the Auxiliary Stage -- at 7 and 8:30 p.m.

Kiddies Day will be back on Wednesday, with $10 wristbands available from 12 to 4 p.m.

Kids activities kick off at 10 a.m. and run until 1 p.m. -- registration for the day begins at 9:30 a.m. and runs to 10:30 a.m.

In the evening, Kidz at Heart will take the Auxiliary Stage from 6 to 9 p.m. while Doug Brewin performs an Alan Jackson tribute on the Main Stage beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Thursday is Clinton County Community Foundation Day. The day will feature Youth Horseback Games, the Youth and FFA Poultry Show and more.

That evening, kiddos ages 3 to 10 can head to the Show Arena at 6 p.m. to register for the Pedal Power Tractor Pull, set to begin at 7 p.m.

Brianna Blankenship performs at the Auxiliary Stage at 7 p.m. And don't miss Bullride Mania at the Lower Horse Ring at 7 p.m.

Friday is Veterans Day. Veterans with proper ID will have the chance to be admitted for free. A special Veterans Program is set to take place on the Main Stage at 4 p.m.

The night will feature events such as the FFA Display and Contest, Pinewood Derby Races, performances by Michael Christopher and Dan and Galla, too.

Saturday will mark the end of the fair, with antique tractor pulls and a Horseshoe Pitching Tournament in the morning.

At 12:30 p.m., the 17th Annual Fairground Parade will take place, with everyone encouraged to participate.

In the afternoon, the Strut Your Mutt Dog Fashion Show will take place at the Auxiliary Stage along with the Clinton County Youth and FFA Awards Programs (in the Show Arena); and the Clinton County Youth Livestock Sale.

Performances that evening will include Ricky Murphy at 4 p.m. on the Main Stage; Rize at 6 p.m. on the Auxiliary Stage at 6 and 8 p.m.

Throughout the whole week, be sure to stop by the South Side Dairy Barn with the kids to visit with Ron Beck's Baby Animals.

And each night, prize drawings will take place at 9:30 p.m. at the Auxiliary Stage. Those who partake must be present to win. Free tickets are available at the fair in the Commercial Building.

Those who are looking for something good to eat will be able to visit Clint's County Fair Diner, which opens each day at 7 a.m.

Once you're well fed, visit the 4-H and Open Exhibit Building or Commercial Building between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. to check out the fine arts, crafts, produce and much more on display at the fair.
