BELLEFONTE -- Centre County is getting a WaWa gas station and convenience store along the Benner Pike.
During this week's Centre County Commissioners meeting, the commissioners were presented with a memorandum of understanding for a "Final Subdivision and Land Development Plan."
This MOU is a three party agreement between the developer, the township and the county, wherein the developer will agree to reimburse Benner Township for the costs associated with the township engineers processing, reviewing, inspecting and approving the engineering aspects of the plan.
Chris Schnure from the Planning and Community Development Department gave a short presentation about the plan for the WaWa.
"In March, news broke that there was going to be a WaWa coming on the Benner Pike. Those plans have been formally submitted," said Schnure.
According to Schnure, the property is located across from the Sheetz on Benner Pike, at the corner of Benner Pike and Eagle Point.
"The plan that was submitted represents a final plan for the construction of a 6,606 square foot facility," said Schnure, "The plan was prepared by PennTerra engineering."
Schnure explained the plan for the WaWa's access points -- where the primary access to the facility is on Eagle Point, as well as a "right out only" exit onto the Benner Pike; the plan is to have 16 fueling stations with eight pumps.
The addition of the WaWa means there will be four options for fuel along this stretch of the Benner Pike: the Sheetz, Rutter's, the Giant Gas Station and the WaWa.
"In a couple of years we've gone from one gas station on the Benner Pike to four," said Chair Mark Higgins, "that's quite a lot of motion in Greater Bellefonte at this point."
At this time there is no set timetable for the construction.

-- The commissioners have proclaimed July 21, 2023 as Park and Recreational Professionals Day in Centre County. Emily Schnellbaugh with the Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Society and Centre Region Parks and Recreation Director Kristy Owens were in attendance to speak on the professionals throughout the country that provide communities a better place to live, work and play.
-- The commissioners also adopted a resolution for the support of 3 Dots Downtown inclusion in the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts' Creative Communities Initiative. Erica Quinn, Executive Director of 3 Dots, was in attendance to explain 3 Dots and the grant they received. 3 Dots is an arts community space located in downtown State College. They are one of eight communities in the state that are officially a "creative community" allowing them to receive 25,000 a year for the next four years.
