York Street Hustle will headline this year's Rockin' the Roxy event as part of the 8th Annual LH JAMS Music and Arts Festival on Thursday, Aug. 10.
LOCK HAVEN -- LH JAMS Music and Arts Festival is back for its eighth year and ready to bring a wide range of music to Clinton County and the surrounding areas.
The festival, put on each year by the Clinton County Arts Council, will kick off Thursday, Aug. 10, with Rockin' the Roxy.
This is the second year the CCAC is bringing live music to The Roxy Theater, and this year they've got two special acts planned.
The concert serves as a fundraiser for LH JAMS and for the Jeff Gummo Scholarship for the Arts, according to CCAC President Steve Getz. Getz has coordinated LH JAMS since its inception eight years ago.
Getz stressed Rockin' the Roxy serves as the CCAC's revenue source for LH JAMS and the scholarship, and is important to help keep the annual festival alive and well - and encourage youth in the community to pursue the arts through its scholarship.
"If you enjoy live music, or if you're a supporter of the CCAC and what they do in the community, please come to this," Getz said. "Fill that theater up! It allows us to keep Friday and Saturday's events free and in Downtown Lock Haven.
A cash bar will also be available from Straub Brewery, the official brewery for LH JAMS, and Oregon Hill Winery, the official winery of LH JAMS.
Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., with local musician Chris Mingear opening for York Street Hustle.
Mingear will hit the stage at 6 p.m. to perform his own music along with some familiar favorites from years gone by.
Mingear describes the genre he performs as "roots music."
"I cut my teeth on old school blues and, I must say, that's where I feel the most comfortable when I have a guitar in my hands," he said.
Mingear has been playing and performing for over 40 years, whether solo or with his brother. According to Mingear, he and his brother had a fairly successful band in the late 1990s in southern California's club scene.
"As I travel through life I always try to stay connected to music anyway I can," Mingear said. "At this time I'm doing the solo thing again; trying to bring my take on some great songs of the past as well as tell a few of my own stories along the way."
Following Mingear's cool, relaxed blue performance, York Street Hustle -- a familiar group at LH JAMS -- will burst onto the stage with their Motown music at 7 p.m.
York Street Hustle is Philadelphia's premiere Motown Band and, in just a few short years, went from filling tiny South Street bars to repeated sell outs of WXPN's World Cafe Live.
Their repertoire now spans over 80 songs including more than a decade worth of Detroit, Memphis and Chicago soul.
The band specializes in the classic sounds of the 1960s. Legends, like Stevie, Aretha and the Four Tops; lesser-known artists including Donny Hathaway, Arthur Conley and Betty Everett -- all are given new life. With grit, sweat and attention to detail, The York Street Hustle is the Northeast's premier 10-piece 1960's soul tribute.

The music won't stop with Thursday night's performance. Just like every year, LH JAMS will encompass multiple days with a variety of musicians.
Friday night will feature the event's annual Block Party on Main Street and see popular favorite, Velveeta on the Main and Grove Street stage at 7 p.m.
And it all concludes on Saturday with LH JAMS annual day-long event filled with music and feature a wide range of local artists from noon to 9:30 p.m. with six bands performing on two stages -- the Main and Grove Street Stage and the former Elks building (now the Susquehanna Event Center) patio. Bands on Saturday will include: the Central Mountain Jazz Cats at 12 p.m.; Paul Jost and the Steve Rudolph Trio at 1 p.m.; The Unstoppable Hack Beats at 2:30 p.m.; You Do You at 4 p.m.; James Supra and the Sarah Ayers Band at 5:30 p.m.; and the B-Street Band: A Tribute to The Boss at 7 p.m.
