MILL HALL -- The Mill Hall Police Department is looking for a new part-time police officer.
Sergeant Marvin Fritts submitted his retirement letter which will be effective on Sept. 30.
Mill Hall Borough Council unanimously approved the letter. The department is now looking to fill the to-be vacant part-time position.
"We do have, not so much a need, but we can utilize a part-time officer. It wouldn't hurt," Borough Council President Dan McCloskey said.
The department's police chief, Brandon Coleman, thanked the board for approving the hiring of a new officer. He followed up with urgency for people throughout the county to lock their cars at night.
After the recent rampant car break-ins, local police departments and the Clinton County District Attorney's office have been investigating the thefts. The majority of the break-ins have been from unlocked vehicles, according to Coleman.
"You've got to lock your cars. We've had some here, Pine Creek Township, Avis Borough, Woodward Township, Wayne Township. They aren't just going up and down Main Street, they are going into the private developments and hitting cars. As far as all the cases I know, they aren't breaking windows, they are getting in unlocked cars," he explained.
The investigations throughout the county are ongoing. Local police are following up on the recent cases, checking any available camera footage and working closely with the DA's office.
In other business, council approved the vote for the annual Heritage Days to be held June 28 through June 29 in 2024.
This Saturday will also be the final day that the Mill Hall Pool will be open for the 2023 summer season.
