McELHATTAN -- Advocates for a Drug Free Tomorrow will be hosting its annual Rally for Recovery on Saturday, Aug. 19.
The event offers both a 5K and a 10K walk/trail run, beautiful countryside, resource information, a speaker in long-term recovery, music, free food, and fellowship.
With 86 registrants to date plus the many who have volunteered to blaze the trail, manage registrations, man relief stations, provide and serve food, etc., the event is sure to be a great success!
Whether the victory is one day or many years with no substances, finishing first in your bracket, or simply finishing at all, everyone is celebrated this day.
Depending on your choice of 5K or 10K, this beautiful trail race begins at the Durty Dabbers Pavilion and covers territory through the woods on the Creekside Trail, the McElhattan Nature Park and Zindel Park.
Pre-registration is available at Rally For Recovery (runsignup.com), but same day registrations are also welcomed. The cost is $20 to participate in the walk/run. Cheerleaders and spectators attend for free.
Those in attendance are encouraged to use one of the sandstones provided to honor the memory of a loved one lost to the disease or to celebrate a period of recovery. The stones are being used to create two paths. One remembers the lives lost to the disease. The other represents individuals on the journey of recovery and contributions others have made to who they have become.
Project Coordinator for the event is Nancy Hackenberg, owner of Be One Healthy Fitness Center, who joined the coalition with a passion for helping the cause, and the Rally itself, to grow and flourish.
Joined by representatives of AllOne Charities as fiscal agent and supporter, the West Branch Drug and Alcohol Abuse Commission, and the Clinton County Probation Services, the committee for the project is committed to the same.

In existence since April 2003, Clinton County's Advocates for a Drug Free Tomorrow is a community coalition pursuing the prevention of and embracing recovery from substance use disorders in our community. The coalition's efforts serve a number of purposes. Among them is to raise community awareness. The group promotes understanding of substance use disorders as a disease and the triumphant reality of recovery. It celebrates the strengths of the community, supports growth, and works for positive change. One of its best attributes is the way in which it provides a safe environment for those in recovery to express themselves with public officials and other professionals who can help transform systems for the better. The coalition recognizes its true strength lies in the experience of those it seeks to serve.
