The board, along with local officials and others involved in the project, gathered on the west side of the building, where two memorials were placed. Each honors veterans from World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam and the Persian Gulf wars. An artillery cannon was also placed with the memorials, moving from its place in Veterans Park.

The memorials were previously at Veterans Park at the intersection of Jay and Water streets, which is currently undergoing improvements.

“These symbols of sacrifice found a new home on the west side of the Piper Government Building, a move filled with deep meaning and respect,” a statement from the county read.

Todd Warner, director of Veterans Affairs, served as the master of ceremonies with Amy Kowatch, an Army Veteran, led those gathered in singing the National Anthem and through the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.

Guest speakers included Senator Cris Dush, who delivered a speech that emphasized the values of unity and sacrifice that hold everyone together as a nation.

Dave Harger, of Harger Utility Charities, who spearheaded the upgrades to Veterans Park, spoke about this initiative and expressed thanks towards those who have contributed to its success so far.

“Our commissioners extend their heartfelt appreciation to all the veterans, families and community members who graced us with their presence at this significant ceremony,” a release said. “We encourage everyone to pay a visit to these memorials and take a moment to honor the past, embrace the present and inspire a brighter future through the knowledge of our County and nation’s history!”
