ROTE -- Lamar Township received more grant funding for its Bolopue Road project.
The township received a total of $3,407 extra toward the ongoing project along Bolopue Road. As the project is finishing up, the extra funds will be put toward leveling off gravel driveways along the roadway.
The supervisors voted to approve the extra funds to be put towards additional work during a regular meeting Tuesday..
2A stone will be utilized along existing driveways in high areas between driving surface aggregate (DSA) to the ditches, according to secretary Tracy Roberts. Charles Construction is contracted to work on Bolopue Road.
"There was a little bit more work that we wanted to do on Bolopue that has been talked about. We were able to get an estimate from Charles Construction, we will be placing 2A stone from existing driveways to the new DSA," Roberts said.
The additional funds will be added with the current $94,000 grant the township has received -- $97,407 in total.
The supervisors approved to pay $63,200 of grant money toward their invoice with Charles Construction. The total amount of the project was $107,22.58.
In other business, Mill Hall Police Chief Brandon Coleman continued to urge residents to keep their car doors locked.
With a string of thefts out of unlocked vehicles across the county, Lamar Township has been no exception. According to Coleman, there are locations within the township that were affected by the thefts.
"We do have a couple of locations in Lamar Township that were affected like multiple other municipalities in the county where people are entering vehicles -- taking items from them. We are following up on some leads," he said.
Supervisor Dan Chappell urged residents to call Mill Hall Police and/or state police to report an incident instead of township officials.
"Brandon has been suggesting that residents need to call, don't call me a day later or Wade -- they need to call Mill Hall Borough Police, state police and report this sooner the better. It seems to be happening a lot," he said.
