The 10th Annual 9/11 Moving Tribute kicked off this morning in Triangle Park with members of Commonwealth University-Lock Haven’s ROTC. The group carried the American flag throughout Lock Haven beginning at 5:45 a.m., the time that the hijackers passed through security, with a multitude of other community members taking on the flag for a half an hour or more – keeping the stars and stripes moving throughout the city. Over the course of the day, many people (runners, walkers and cyclists) will keep flags moving throughout the community in remembrance of 9/11. There is no specific route for the flag. Two of the event flags will be presented to a Veteran and a Community Member at a later date. The event, which will run until 8:30 p.m. – when President Bush addressed the nation on Sept. 11, 2001 – is organized by the local VETS+ organization and Clinton County office of Veterans Affairs and is meant to honor all those who lost their lives in the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks and those who died during the war on terror that followed. Derek Hoover, of Lock Haven’s Hand In Hand Fire Company, carried the flag for an hour in his firefighting gear. Hoover said he felt taking an hour of his time to honor the fallen was the least he could do for those who lost their lives 22 years ago in those deadly terrorist attacks.
