LOCK HAVEN — Avenue 209 Coffee House was bustling with the return of Pocket Vinyl.

Pocket Vinyl is a husband and wife duo. Eric is a one man piano-band — performing a slam rock piano solo paired with Elizabeth, an on-stage painter.

During each show, Elizabeth creates a work of art which is then auctioned off afterwards. Every painting she completes is unique and thought up on the spot during the performance.

The last time Pocket Vinyl was at Avenue 209 was Dec. 8, 2022 when they performed their 1001st show.

Similar to the last time they played at Avenue 209, Eric worked the crowd throughout the show. He would talk to audience members about his thought process with each song, and interject with funny anecdotes about their time touring.

They played exactly eight songs during this set, and in that timeframe, Elizabeth painted a gorgeous scene of a bear and its cub nestled behind branches with colorful leaves.

“For all of my paintings I don’t know where the inspiration comes from until later,” Elizabeth explained after the set. “It could be later this week where I think, ‘Oh I was thinking about parenthood or fall colors.’ Because I do them so quickly it’s hard to know exactly where they come from right away.”

They had tons of merchandise for sale at the event, CDs, vinyls, T-shirts, stickers and various books.

One of the books they’re promoting during this tour is their newest graphic novel — their first full-length one — titled “How to Completely Lose Your Mind: A Graphic Novel Memoir of One Indie Band’s Attempt to Break a World Record.”

The graphic novel follows Elizabeth and Eric as they complete their music tour through all 50 states in as short a time as possible.

From Feb. 21, 2019 through April 6, 2019, Pocket Vinyl tried and succeeded in breaking the record for “fastest to play a concert in each of the 50 states.” Their final time, from the first note of the first show to the last note of the last show was 44 days, 13 hours, 50 minutes and 24 seconds. On their website they have a listing of each venue they performed at with the date of the performance.

Though there were advanced copies of the book available at the show, pre-orders are available through links on pocketvinyl.com.

The book will be released on Oct. 10.

Elizabeth also has a webcomic loosely based on their time in the band called “The Touring Test” on Instagram and in print. On the Instagram page is a link to their Etsy, where fans can buy prints, art books, stickers, lapel pins and even clothing!

“I sing out of tune sometimes but Elizabeth never has a bad show,” joked Eric, speaking about their passion for performing and creating art. One of the more powerful songs in the set revolved around someone losing that passion and becoming free from the obligation of being on the stage.

It was one of their longer songs, with a very dramatic and loud start emphasizing the feeling of helplessness in something you once considered a passion. The song trailed off halfway through into silence before picking up with a more upbeat tune. The song will be recorded in the near future.

Elizabeth’s painting from this performance sold for $81 after a brief bidding war between two individuals.
