LOCK HAVEN -- Lock Haven's newest family owned and operated facility is nearly ready to open for business.
The Golden Axe, located at 137 E. Main St., Lock Haven, is hosting their grand opening on Oct. 7 from noon to midnight.
Travis, Beth, Mason and Brooklyn Moyer have been working hard to get their family business up and running -- their soft opening over the weekend of September 23/24 was a great success.
"From start to finish we've done this together," said Travis. "(This) is something interesting to do for the whole family. (Our) day jobs are pretty demanding, and we're not leaving our day jobs… This is something we can do together. These are all things we enjoy as a family, so we can come here and spend time together doing what we love."
Though the venue is BYOB, they offer non-alcoholic drinks to purchase. They offer sweet tea, flavored lemonade and their signature drink: The Raging Bulls -- a mix of Red Bull, flavored syrups and juice.
"We wanted some place for families to come and have a good time, as well as adults and their friends. You can bring your own beer and have a good time, but you can also bring your six-year-old and don't have to worry about the guy next to you being a drunk lunatic. This isn't that kind of establishment," said Travis.
The facility offers many things for guests to enjoy, including seven hatchet lanes, corn hole, darts, pool and Jenga as well as three 75-inch TVs.
"(Axe throwing) is something people are really interested in, but we're not just axe throwing. We have cornhole, darts, pool -- I love shooting darts and playing pool. It's something I've liked since I was a kid and we always (play cornhole) at family functions," said Travis.
The rules at the venue are simple: Throwers must wear closed-toe shoes only (no heels), only single or double hand throws, keep hands off fencing, no destructive throwing, make sure the throwing area is clear, do not hand off axes and respect your axe master.
And, as always, too tipsy to throw? Out you go!
"I've been in the community for almost two decades now. I've built some phenomenal relationships with people in the area -- and that's what we look to have here. We want people excited to come down here and make that connection," said Travis.
When you book a lane you have numerous options to pick from. An hour of axe throwing is $30 for one person, but they also offer specials such as their date night special -- an hour of axe throwing for two people for $50.
If you don't want to throw for the full hour, they also have a 30 minute booking for $20.
The dart board can also be booked for an hour time slot for $10, and the cornhole boards are $15 for an hour.
If you want to book both axe throwing and either cornhole or darts, they also have a combo booking. For $35 per person you can have an hour of axe throwing and an hour of either cornhole or darts.
If you're looking for a fun gift to give to your loved one, The Golden Axe also sells gift certificates from $20 to $200.
Though their hours are subject to change as the business grows, currently their hours are:
-- Thursday 6-10 p.m.
-- Friday, Saturday 6-11:30 p.m.
-- Sunday Noon-5 p.m.
"It feels like we're at home when we're (at The Golden Axe,) we can come here, mingle with other people, have a great time and invest into our futures," said Travis.
