Voter registrar offers election update

LOCK HAVEN -- Clinton County Voter Registrar Maria Boileau reminded county residents of important dates leading up to the Nov. 7 general election.

Boileau offered a brief rundown of upcoming deadlines during the Clinton County Board of Commissioners' work session Monday.

"Our sample ballots will be up on our website (www.clintoncounypa.gov) by the end of this week," she said. "On the 21st -- that's Thursday -- we'll do logic and accuracy testing, and on Friday," Boileau said her office will begin sending out requested absentee and mail-in ballots from Sept. 29 to Oct. 2.

"You should see something in your mailbox if you have placed an application with us by the first week in October," she said.

The last day to request a mail-in or absentee ballot is Oct. 31.

Commissioner Miles Kessinger encouraged residents to not wait until Oct. 31 to request a mail-in or absentee ballot.

"Because of the way the mail moves, if you wait until the (Oct.) 31st, there's a very strong chance that your ballot may not get to you and back in time to be counted," Kessinger said. "They have to be in by 8 o'clock on election night. Please don't wait until Oct. 31."

The last day to register to vote is Oct. 23.

Commissioner Angela Harding asked Boileau if her office was in need of poll workers for this election cycle.

"We can always use poll workers," Boileau said. She noted that her office is already beginning the process to find poll workers for the 2024 election cycle.

"So we do need additional poll workers in most of the precincts," she said.

Further information regarding the upcoming election, how to apply for an absentee or mail-in ballot and more may be found at https://www.clintoncountypa.gov/departments/voter-registration.

Boileau also touched on a topic that will be discussed at Thursday's voting session.

Two representatives of the Commission for the United States Semiquincentennial America 250 PA -- Cassandra Coleman and Victoria Rogers -- will present information about preparations for the United States' 250th Birthday in 2026.

Boileau explained in 2018, a commissioner was created by former Gov. Tom Wolf to ensure participation from all 67 counties in the Commonwealth.

Boileau said the pair will request the board approve a resolution to support the Pennsylvania Commission for the United States Semiquincentennial. The resolution includes four pillars: Educate, preserve, innovate and celebrate.

"With this resolution, the county will also establish a volunteer committee, a diverse group of Clinton County residents, to work with America 250 on any and all semiquincentennial activities."
