ROTE -- Lamar Township may adjust its 2024 budget pending grant funding.
Announced during Tuesday's monthly supervisors meeting, the township is fixing next year's budget depending on received grants.
According to chairman, Wade Vonada, they applied for several grants including: a backhoe grant, a grant to fix the Long Run Park's tennis courts, a grant to fix machinery -- lawnmowers, blowers, etc. -- two more dirt and gravel grants to be used for the Burrell Road Project's second phase and to put a new drainage pipe in along East End Mountain Road.
"We're applying for a lot of grants. Basically, our budget is going to look terrible like it did last year. But we will only spend the money if we receive the grants but we have to put it in the budget, so we can spend it if we do get them," Vonada explained.
He continued to stress money will only be used if the township receives the grant funding.
In other business, the Burrell Road Project is in the process of finishing up phase one.
Vonada asked for a motion during the public works portion of the agenda, to pay half of the bill to Toner Trucking for their work. The township has received half of the funding already, according to Vonada. The payment will not take place until Burrell Road is inspected.
"Burrell work is well underway and they probably need a day to finish. I would like a motion to have permission to pay them once we're inspected and we have the other half of our money from dirt and gravel. We could, if there was some conflict, give Toner Trucking half -- we received half -- to keep them happy until we get everything done," Vonada said.
The supervisors have already agreed to accept the grant for the project, to do the work and pay the bill.
The supervisors also approved Trick-or-Treating for Halloween 2023 to be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Oct. 31.
