MILL HALL -- The Keystone Central School Board will be reviewing a recommendation by Superintendent Dr. Jacquelyn Martin regarding the district's next assistant superintendent.

Martin has made a recommendation to the board of directors to appoint Dr. Randy Zangara to the role.

"Dr. Zangara has a lot of experience, energy and enthusiasm as an educational leader. He is already researching innovative ideas for attracting, retaining and supporting employees," Martin said. "I am confident that he will successfully transition into his new role and be a valuable asset to our district and community".

Currently, Zangara is the executive director of Career and Technical Education Partnerships at Pennsylvania College of Technology and is responsible for working with school districts and career and technical centers across Pennsylvania, and the east coast, in an effort to create opportunities for students.

Zangara brings a wealth of experience to this important leadership position, according to a release from the district.

A graduate of Lycoming College and Bloomsburg University, Zangara began his teaching career at Williamsport Area School District in 1998 in Career and Technical Education and subsequently taught business education.

After receiving his Masters in School Administration from Duquesne University, he was employed as a principal at various schools in the Williamsport School District before being named Career and Technical Education Director in 2013.

Zangara earned his Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Immaculata University and was named Dean of College Transitions and Student Success as well as an Associate Professor at the Pennsylvania College of Technology in 2018.

According to the release, the assistant superintendent vacancy attracted eight qualified candidates.

Martin facilitated a multi-step process which included authentic tasks and several interview panels that consisted of faculty members, administrators, community members, students, parents and school board members.

Ultimately, Zangara was selected from the group of finalists who were evaluated by the school board and administrative cabinet members.

"I am honored to be recommended as the next assistant superintendent for the Keystone Central School DIstrict. Your community is filled with great students, engaged families, supportive community leaders, proactive school board members, industry partners and, of course, exceptional educators, support personnel and administrators," Zangara offered the following statement. "I am very excited to get to work and even more excited to engage with the school community."

The board of directors is expected to formally consider the recommendation at its next board meeting tonight at 6:30 p.m.

The meeting is held in the district's administrative meeting room and available to attend virtually via zoom on the district's website.

If approved, Zangara is expected to begin his duties in the district on Oct. 23 and continue for a term of five years.

According to the proposed contract in the board's agenda, the proposed salary for the position is $131,000 and prorated.

Dr. Zangara and his wife, Tina, reside in Williamsport. They are the parents of four daughters.
