Sunset Pines Phase II nearing completion

LOCK HAVEN -- HRI, Inc. is installing curb this week as part of the final touches to Phase II of the Sunset Pines Stormwater project.

Lock Haven City Council received an update during its meeting Monday night regarding the project, which began Sept. 5.

Public Works Director Tony Stopper provided information on the project, which encompasses work between Terrace Drive and Hemlock Drive, in a memo to council.

"The contractor has completed all storm pipe and inlet installation," Stopper said. "Currently, there are crews completing asphalt restoration on the storm pipe excavation area and any other base repairs needed prior to final pavement."

Stopper said the contractor began installing curb this week, with plans to begin paving the week of Oct. 9. All work is expected to be done by Oct. 13 with the road fully reopened.

"There may be a few days of cleanup after paving, which include topsoiling/seeding, equipment removal and material removal," Stopper said.

Stopper has met with the city's engineer, Gwin Dobson & Foreman, to discuss the next phase of the project.

The six-phase project, which will bring much needed stormwater infrastructure to the development, will cost an estimated $1.7 million. Phase II cost roughly $240,310. Phase I -- which saw the bulk of its work along Sylvan Drive -- had the biggest price tag at about $700,000.

According to City Manager Gregory Wilson, most but not all of Sylvan Drive will be completed with Phase II. He noted once Sylvan Drive is complete, the feeder roads would begin to see work. Work will be completed from the bottom of Sylvan Drive and up, he said.

Other improvements include:

-- Hillcrest and Spruce drives

-- Oak Lane and Woodland Road.

In other business council:

-- Approved the closure of a section of Third Avenue next to Murray Motors on Oct. 26 from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Murray Motors intends to hold its 7th Annual Trunk or Treat at that time.

-- Approved an amendment to its Drug Free Workplace Policy. Wilson said the policy was updated to be in-line with federal laws.

-- Considered adopting amended bylaws of the Ross Library Board of Trustees.

All members of council were present for Monday's meeting -- with members Rick Conklin and Jeff Brinker attending virtually -- in council chambers.

Council's next meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 16.
