BELLEFONTE -- The Bellefonte Area School Board gave a heartfelt goodbye to the members who will not be returning for the final meeting of 2023.
Board members Marie Perini, Julie Fitzgerald and Nate Campbell will not be returning in December following November's General Election.
During the President's Report, Jon Guizar complimented them on the work they've done during their time on the board.
"Julie has served on many committees. She has served as vice president of the board and her noble work recently in policy has been a huge win for the district. I don't know of any time when our district in house with board members on the committee have gone through every single policy... It was a huge undertaking and (she) stepped right up to that," said Guizar.
"Nate, thank you very much for your service on the board. He has been with us for various committees... He's done a great job with our new elementary program. Hopefully when you see that completed, you'll know that you played a good part in that," said Guizar.
"Dr. Perini, thank you very much for your service on various committees, policy committees as well as being our Central Intermediate Unit representative, among other things," said Guizar.
The three members received a round of applause from their fellow board members as well as from the audience.
Superintendent Tammie Burnaford echoed Guizar's comments during her Superintendent's Report.
"I just wanted to personally and publicly thank Mr. Campbell, Mrs. Fitzgerald and Dr. Perini as well. It's been a pleasure working with you and I appreciate the support you've given me through these years. On behalf of our student body and our staff, thank you," said Burnaford.
On Dec. 5 the board will reorganize, welcoming three new members that were elected during the most recent election -- Jennifer Barnhart, Tim Kessling and Patrick Buck.
Board members Donna Smith and Kimberly Weaver will be retaining their seats.
