MILL HALL -- The Bald Eagle Township supervisors approved a new truck purchase and authorized new grant applications.
The supervisors approved a motion to purchase a new pickup truck during Monday's monthly meeting. The truck is estimated to cost $56,000 and will be covered by remaining ARPA funds. The costs will also be covered by sale of the township's current 2014 pickup truck.
The purchase "will not cost a resident a single dime," urged Supervisor Stephen Tasselli.
"We will be selling the 2014 (truck) and the money was a grant gift from ARPA. We have discussed and looked things over... we have been very frugal about it," he said.
Currently, the township has about $200,000 in APRA funds. The funds will need to be used by the end of 2024.
"Most municipalities, that money is long gone and we've been sitting on it," township Secretary Marissa Morgan explained.
The supervisors approved two resolutions that will allow the applications of two separate grants. Resolution 2023-03 was approved and will allow the application of a grant which is proposed for the purchase of a new leaf vac truck. The grant will be for up to $300,300 and not match, according to Morgan.
"This is a 100 percent grant funded application," she said.
Resolution 2023-04 was approved and will allow the application for grant money which is proposed for the paving of the parking lot at the township's park. The grant will be for $65,000.
Prior to Monday's supervisors meeting, a public hearing was held regarding a zoning change.
The supervisors approved to amend a current ordinance which will allow personal storage warehouses to be in the township's commercial district.
"It allows personal storage warehouses to be allowed within the commercial district but are not allowed within 10,000 feet of the Hogan Boulevard strip," solicitor Frank Miceli said.
In other business, the supervisors approved to give all township employees a $600 annual bonus and approved a new insurance proposal for employees.
They also approved to continue a contractual agreement with the Mill Hall Fire Company for fire services in the township.
