Bucktail hosts annual Veterans Day Assembly

By KEVIN RAUCH For The Express 1 min read

RENOVO -- For over 20 years the Bucktail Area High School has played host to a moving and patriotic Veterans Day Assembly that often leaves attendees moved to tears.

Retired teacher, Trish Wilson, directs an event that emotionally captivates veterans and civilians alike. This year's guest speakers included 1986 Bucktail graduate and active Colonel Steve Rathmell, Commander 224 Air Defense Group Eastern Air Defense Sector and Colonel (retired) Todd Warner, Veterans Affairs Clinton County.

Colonel Rathmell spoke of his memories at Bucktail and his ongoing military service.

Although the colonel couldn't give specifics of his job, he assured the students, faculty and members of the community that the air defense over the eastern seaboard is filled with capable and brave military personnel, even if the public will never be made aware of their daily service towards keeping the county safe.

After taking in the annual Renovo Elementary School's movie -- where the students thank veterans, including their own family members -- Colonel Warner called the event second to none, assuring the crowded gymnasium that he's sure that all veterans present surely were left with lumps of pride and gratitude in their throats.
