Bucktail to host annual Veterans Day Assembly

RENOVO -- Bucktail Middle/Senior High School will host the annual Veterans Day Assembly Program on Friday, Nov. 10, in the Dale Florey High School Gymnasium. The assembly will begin at 10 a.m. Hosts for the assembly are Miss. Bucktail, Dinel Fleisher, and Bucktail Laurel Representative, Alexis Lowery. The theme of the assembly this year is "Service." There will be singing, video presentations and speeches to honor our veterans.

This year's guest speaker is Colonel Steven H. Rathmell, Commander of the 224 Air Defense Group, New York Air National Guard. He is also a Bucktail graduate of the Class of 1986. Courtney Gardner Billings, Bucktail graduate of the Class of 2012, will do a short reading and sing a song made popular during the Vietnam Era, "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong.

Following Courtney's presentation, Brett Umbenhouer, Renovo Elementary principal, will address the assembly and lead into Dan Heiser's Elementary School Video Presentation. The first half of the assembly will conclude with the Bucktail Concert Band performing American Folk Song Portrait by Timothy Loest.

The second half of the assembly Colonel (retired) Todd R.Warner, Director of Veterans Affairs for Clinton County, will address the assembly.

Erica Morton Dorman, former Bucktail graduate of the Class of 2001, will grace the stage with Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, a song made popular during World War II by the Andrew Sisters, accompanied by Brandon Kahley on bugle.

Her song will lead into Rich Wykoff's Heritage Park Video Presentation of the Flyboys of World War II.

The Bucktail Concert Band will conclude with Bells of Freedom by David R. Gillingham. Continuing with tradition, the 11th hour Ceremony will follow with Senior Jeremy Zuback playing the 11 drum beats, the Unfurling of the American Flag by the Bucktail Cheerleaders, the singing of the National Anthem, by Sophomore Kedda Bissman, and the playing of TAPs by Band Director, Brandon Kahley.

The Folding of the Flag Ceremony will follow and James Poleto, Bucktail High School principal, will bring the assembly to a close.

Please join as Bucktail students and staff remember all those who served to protect and defend our country and will continue to preserve the American way of life. The public is invited to attend.

Refreshments will follow from Mrs. Dufour's Family and Consumer Science Classes in the gym lobby.
