MILL HALL -- The Keystone Central School District is expected to appoint Dr. Francis Redmon as the next superintendent of schools at an upcoming special voting meeting on Thursday, Nov. 30.
Superintendent Dr. Jacquelyn Martin will be finishing a five-year contract with the district on Jan. 31, 2024, and will hand over the commissioned officer duties to her successor beginning Feb. 1, 2024, a release from the district said.
Dr. Martin has pledged to fully support Dr. Redmon in his transition, according to the release.
"Dr. Redmon is going to be a great asset to the school district and community. His skill set and experience with future-focused school systems make him the perfect leader to continue the work established in the district's comprehensive plan," Martin noted in the release.
Dr. Redmon is an experienced superintendent, serving in the Quilcene School District in Washington and the Ashgabat International School in Turkmenistan. He also brings experience as a building administrator and a middle and high school science and math teacher. He is a veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy after graduating from high school, the release said.
"I am excited and honored to be invited by the Board of Directors to serve the Keystone Central School District students, staff and community," writes Dr. Redmon. "The great work that Dr. Martin, the KCSD team, and community have done is a testament to the commitment to the students, parents, staff, and community we serve; together we will continue to prepare our young citizens for the challenges and opportunities of the future."
Dr. Redmon's appointment follows a comprehensive national search, which included input from various stakeholders.
His selection underscores the district's commitment to leadership that is focused on academic excellence and the well-being of all students, the release stated.
The district has offered a four-and-a-half-year contract with an end date of June 30, 2028.
Dr. Redmon and his wife, Sharon, are looking forward to moving into the district and becoming part of the community.
