MILL HALL -- Newcomers and familiar faces have found themselves with seats on the Keystone Central School District Board of Directors in the coming year, according to preliminary results from the Clinton county Voter Registrar's office.
Five seats are opening up on the 9-member board in 2024 -- Region I, Region III, Region IV, Region VI and Region VIII -- three of which were contested going into the General Election Tuesday.
REGION I
Region I, which encompasses Greene, Logan and Porter Townships, and Loganton Borough, had two candidates in Tuesday's election -- Chris Scaff, who won the Republican nomination in May, and Mary Ann Clark, who won the Democratic nomination.
Scaff has seemingly earned the seat, which will be vacated by longtime board member Wayne Koch at the end of the year.
According to preliminary results Scaff earned a total of 765 votes -- of that number 705 were made in person and 60 were cast via mail-in ballot.
Clark followed behind with a total of 305 votes -- of that number 222 were made in person and 83 were cast via mail-in ballot.
REGION III
Region III incumbent Polly Donahay was the sole candidate and will retain her seat in 2024.
In total, Donahay received 434 votes on the Democratic ballot. Of that number, 368 were cast in-person and another 66 were cast via mail-in ballot.
Region III encompasses Beech Creek Borough, Beech Creek Township, Curtin Township (Centre County) and Liberty Township (Centre County).
REGION IV
Region IV incumbent Jeff Johnston, the sole candidate on the ballot on Tuesday, has retained his seat on school board.
Johnston received 883 votes in total, according to preliminary results. Of that number, 721 were cast in-person and another 162 were by mail-in ballot.
Region IV makes up Dunnstable, Wayne and Pine Creek II Townships.
REGION VI
Challenger William A. Baldino is poised to take the Region VI seat from incumbent David Dietrich.
Baldino received 248 votes total, according to preliminary results. Of that number 217 were cast in person and another 31 were made via mail-in ballot.
Dietrich received 214 votes, according to preliminary results. Of that number 147 were cast in person and another 67 were made via mail-in ballot.
Region VI covers Lock Haven 2nd and 3rd Wards and Allison Township.
REGION VIII
Newcomer Tom Cannon is poised to take the Region VI seat from incumbent Rick Schulze.
Cannon received 634 votes total, according to preliminary results. Of that number 576 were cast in person and another 58 were made via mail-in ballot.
Schulze received 518 votes, according to preliminary results. Of that number 373 were cast in person and another 145 were made via mail-in ballot.
Region VIII covers Castanea and Bald Eagle Townships and Flemington Borough.
